PROVENANCE: Professor William Rees Thence by family descent
Llangefni is the county town of Anglesey and lies at the centre of the island on the River Cefni. Having been born in Llangefni in 1918, Williams was intimately acquainted with the region and its landscape as illustrated through his rich array of paintings.
William Rees (1887-1978) was professor of Welsh History at University College, Cardiff from 1930-53 and served as acting head of department between 1936-53, specialising in medieval Welsh. Born at Aberysgir, near Brecon, Rees was the youngest of eight children and received his early education in Llanfrynach.
