A massive Canton famille rose bowl
19th century
The unusually large bowl delicately enamelled in the interior central medallion with a lady and her maidservants watching a performance by two ladies with long poles and a costumed man, all surrounded by a band containing a continuous scene of figures gathering on terraces beneath a border filled with butterflies amid peony, chrysanthemum, daisies and lychee fruits, the exterior with two large lobed cartouches alternating with two smaller lobed cartouches each containing figures on terraces, all on a ground decorated with butterflies and birds on leafy floral branches beneath a border of figural scenes at the rim, wood stand. 60cm (23 5/8in) diam.
