A very fine pair of Chinese Imari jars and covers
Circa 1710-1730, on 19th century carved walnut stands in the Louis XVI style
Each vase vibrantly decorated in the Imari palette of underglaze blue and iron-red with branches issuing freely blossoming flowers, including chrysanthemum and peony, and long leafy tendrils, between a band of stiff lappets each containing a flower at the foot and a row of broad pendent underglaze blue ruyi-heads at the shoulder also containing blossoms and leaves in reserve, the waisted neck with a band of iron-red lotus scroll, each cover decorated all over with red and blue flowers and topped with a finial modelled as a crouching Buddhist lion.
