A Cantonese carved ivory letter rack
19th century
The four sides of the letter rack each intricately carved with a central cartouche containing figures amongst trees and pavilions, all surrounded by reticulated foliate scrollwork containing blooming lotus and a pair of confronted peacocks on each of the longer sides, all raised on four demon-mask feet between a fringe of floral and foliate scroll, the central upright divider also with reticulated carving on each side with a winged boy hanging from scrollwork amongst flowers and leaves. 20.8cm long x 13.3 wide (8¼in long x 5¼in wide)
