A rare silver-inlaid bronze vase, hu
Song/Ming Dynasty
Inspired by the Shang Dynasty bronze prototype, the generous angled pear-shaped body rising to the everted neck and rim, finely cast in relief on each side with a taotie mask, above the foot cast in relief on each side with a pair of stylised dragons flanking a mask, each relief section superbly inlaid with scrolls or leiwen heightening the impact of the design, with a geometric inlaid border below the rim with a key-fret border, with traces of verdigris on the brown patinated surface, the interior with a pictogram, wood stand. 20.4cm (8in) high high (2).
