A fine large cloisonné enamel circular box and cover
18th century
The heavily-cast box and cover brightly enamelled with a central medallion on the cover containing a phoenix perched on a rock besides flowering and fruiting branches against a red ground, within a yellow-ground lotus-scroll band, the sides of the cover and the box with a matching design of four lobed cartouches variously containing lotus, peony, chrysanthemum and prunus, the interior of both box and cover with a central shou character surrounded by five bats and four peach sprays on a leiwen ground, the base of the box with a repeated design of a red flower within a hexagonal blue border. 36cm (14in) diam.
