Compare another russet jade bi disc dated to the Neolithic period, Liangzhu culture, and now in the British Museum, illustrated by J.Rawson, Chinese Jades from the Neolithic to the Qing, London, 1995, fig.1c and also illustrated on the front cover of the publication.

The following 20 lots form part of an old collection of Chinese jades formed by a Canadian collector who travelled regularly to New York and Hong Kong during the 1960s. They were particularly attracted to Qing jade of good colour, and bought from specialist dealers including The House of Jade, New York; Trio Pearl, and Jade House, Hong Kong; and Nagatani, Chicago. Where the information is available in the family records, the purchase dates on the invoices from these galleries have been noted in the footnotes to the lots. A number of the jades were exhibited anonymously at the Royal Ontario Museum in 1968, in a display entitled Prized Possession from Private Homes; their exhibition and illustration history is also noted below.

This collection of jades from Canada is being sold by descendants of the original owners.
