The almost square seal surmounted by an openwork coiling dragon, boldly carved with a scaly body, his head raised ferociously with bulging eyes, the underside plain, the stone of pale green tone with brown inclusions. 13.2cm x 14.1cm x 14.5cm high (5in x 5½in x 5½in high)

    A related green jade 'double-dragon' seal of slightly smaller proportions, inscribed Chiming Zhibao, dated to the early Qing Dynasty, in the Qing Court Collection, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pl.2.

    A very similar slightly larger grey 'dragon' seal, 17th century, was sold at Christie's London on 9 November 2010, lot 19.
