A gold four-case inro with cosmos decoration/mandala
A rare gold and black lacquer four-case inro
18th century
One side of roiro, finely lacquered with the Buddhist conception of the universe with inscribed cartouches, over a swirling watery base, in gold togidashi, the reverse of fundame, lacquered with a divination calendar (Eto), showing the sexagenary cycle around a central flaming tama, each term classified into their respective elements from the Chinese Gogyo (five elements of the world), the interior of rich nashiji, unsigned; with a mixed-metal, hexagonal ojime with inlaid medallions; and a lacquer manju netsuke, decorated with a hoe and large daikon in gold takamakie and aogai, unsigned.
