Of circular shallow form, finely decorated in enamels and gilt, the centre painted with Yamauba, portrayed as a young woman, wearing a loose robe decorated with various rich brocades, carrying a basket of wild fruit in one arm and cradling the 'strong boy' Kintaro in the other, the latter playing 'tug of war' with a monkey, lying on the ground, pulling the other end of a trailing vine, four bats hovering above the scene, all reserved within a border of shippo-tsunagi; the underside painted with butterflies, chrysanthemums and musical instruments floating on a stream; signed with gold seal Meizan sei. 11cm (4 5/16in) diam.
