A large cloisonné enamel ovoid vase

Finely worked in silver wire of varying gauge with five large butterflies in flight over the midnight-blue ground, the foot and neck with brocade borders of chrysanthemum heads and tiny yellow butterflies and florettes, the base stamped with the characters Shuzo within an oval reserve. 23cm (9in) high.

    Ogasawara Shuzo is listed in Nagoya-shi Hakubutsukan Kenkyu Hokoku III, Meijiki Hakurankai Shuppin Shippoko Soran (A Comprehensive Study of Cloisonne enamels), p.27, and recorded as an exhibitor at the Paris International Exhibition in Meiji 33 (1900) working under Hosansha.
