For two more examples of karasu painted by this artist, see the Exhibition Catalogue, Tokubetsu Tenrankai Botsugo hyakuniju-nen Kinen Kaiga no Bokensha Kyosai: Kindai e Kakeru Hashi (Commemorating the 120th Memorial of Kawanabe Kyosai Bridge to Modernity: Kyosai's Adventures in Painting), April 8th - May 11th 2008, Kyoto National Museum, 2008, pp.154-155.

Kyosai was known for his prints and paintings of animals. The crow, however, is certainly the creature he depicted most. Not only did the artist have exceptional knowledge of the character of his subject but he even identified personally with the bird and even used a crow motif for his seals.
