A gold lacquer kobako (small box) and cover

Of rectangular rounded form, finely decorated in gold and slight colour takamakie, hiramakie, togidashi, e-nashiji, with a continuous and impressive landscape of the Tokaido (the name of the road from the Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo to Kyoto along the Eastern shore of Japan), with the post stations minutely marked with their names in rectangular cartouches, with some names duplicated and others missing, the design repeated on the inside of the box and cover, the discreet details highlighted in kirikane and kimpun and okibirame, the underside of rich nashiji; unsigned. 7cm x 17cm x 13.5cm (2¾in x 6 5/8in x 5¼in).
