Edo Period, 18th/19th century
The carcass of rectangular form and raised on a detachable stand, the edges and doors attached with gilt-metal external fittings, the hinged doors opening to reveal within an arrangment of ten drawers of differing width, the front decorated in gold takamakie with pavilions and other buildings set amidst Chinese mountainous landscapes on a black lacquer ground, the interior similarly lacquered, the inside of the doors with a Winter landscape lake scene framed within a nashiji border, the drawers similarly decorated, the sides attached with two ring handles; on a later removable European lacquered wood stand. 134cm x 97.5cm x 51.7cm (52¾in x 38 3/8in x 20 3/8in) incl. stand.
