Provenance: Wilfred Randolph Brown. He was a well-known and respected property developer in Liverpool during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1935, he commissioned his son, Neville Montague Beresford, an architect by profession, to design and build a country home, The Chase, for his family in twelve acres of land outside the village of Great Sutton on the Wirral. Although The Chase was developed in the Art Deco style, Wilfred and his wife Francis Eliza furnished their home with artefacts from all over the world. They established an Oriental room which included furniture, such as the suite offered here and ceramics from Asia, particularly China and Japan.
