A wood Noh mask of Sankojo
By Nakamura Naohiko (1878-1945), 20th century
The old peasant, probably intended to represent a ghost or demon, is typically shown with pronounced curvature of the eyes, extensive and deep wrinkling, large blackened teeth and implanted horse hair, all traits pointing to a coarse demeanour, the reverse signed with seal Nakamura Naohiko; with silk brocade storage bag. 20.2cm (7 15/16in) high. (2).
