The blade of hira-zukuri form, in ivory mounts, carved all over in relief with a continuous scene of numerous revellers celebrating the New Year, including shishimai dancers, itinerant performers, musicians, street vendors and children playing with spinning tops and other toys, the tsuka (hilt) carved with groups of figures enjoying a picnic beneath pine, the kurigata carved with a bird in flight among pine, signed Eiyuki within a rectangular reserve. 29.7cm (11 3/8in) long.
