Naturalistically carved to represent a half-peeled tangerine with the pale orange-stained dimpled skin partially removed to reveal the white flesh underneath, unsigned.

    Amongst figural representations of people and animals, trompe l'oeil ivory carvings of fruit were also popular during the Meiji Period. The workmanship required to naturalistically render a piece of fruit in ivory was never more accomplished than during this time.
