The long bow covered in black lacquer, the bindings in uniformly-spaced bands of red-lacquered bamboo, dated Tempo junen (10th year of Tempo [1839]), signed Yoshichika/Yoshitaka. 210cm (82½in) long.

    This particular type of bow would only have been used while on horseback. Yumi (longbows) were designed specifically so that the two unequal arms exerted an even pull on the arrow. It was used as a primary weapon by mounted samurai.
