A Namban kabuto (helmet)
Early Edo Period, 17th century
Of six vertical plates with roped edges overlaid with pierced iron plates the design outlined with a silver dragon at the centre of each, at the top a round plate overlaid by four pierced and fluted chrysanthemum plates with a silver and gilt boss at the centre, a small rounded peak with roped iron edge above a brow plate cusped over the eyes with applied eyebrows and edged with a copper fukurin, the ko manju jikoro or iron kiritsuke kozane black lacquered and laced in blue kebiki odoshi, simple black-lacquered fukigaeshi with a cherry blossom in silver; with a wood storage box.
