A Higo shin-shinto katana

The blade of shinogi-zukuri form with notare-ba of nioi with pronounced nie and tight mokume-hada, suken and bonji horimono to one side, narrow hi and bonji to the other, the ubu-nakago with one mekugi-ana, signed and dated Higo Manposhi Enju Kunikane, Kaei ninen nigatsu, nichi (day in February 1849); in shirazaya; koshirae; the saya of red ishime lacquer; the iron Higo tsuba with silver nunome decoration; Higo shibuichi fuchi-gashira; silver kojiri carved with waves; shakudo and gilt menuki of rats on food trays, unsigned; both with fabric bag.
