Of square form, both faces inset with a square cartouche, one lacquered in gold and slight coloured takamakie, aogai and ishime with assorted shells and branches of coral lying between wave-lashed rocky islets, the reverse similarly lacquered and decorated with one of shippo-tsunagi and one of key-fret on a bamboo ground, the top, sides and bottom of simulated dark green seido-nuri ground, one side of the inro sliding open to reveal four interior silvered-metal-handled wood drawers, with added signature Zeshin, with ceramic ojime in the form of a spiral shell and manju netsuke of unadorned dark wood, unsigned. 6cm (2 5/16in) high.
