The large shoe carved on either side with panels, one pierced and with a small dragon at the top holding a partly-open scroll painting, the ivory slightly worn, unsigned.

    The subject illustrates the story of Choryo, one of the three heroes of Han dynasty China. Choryo overcame a fierce river dragon and rescued a shoe that had been dropped in a river by Kosekiko.
