A saishiki (painted wood) netsuke of Ryujin
Attributed to Yoshimura Shuzan, 18th century
The Dragon King conventionally shown with a fierce expression, wearing his dragon head-dress, with the claw-like hands gripping the entire length of his body, standing and holding with both hands the sacred tide jewel, the pale hinoki wood bearing traces of coloured pigment and gesso, unsigned; with wood storage box. 10.2cm (4in) high.
