Two early lacquer four-case inro
17th century
The first of gold lacquer, decorated with a continuous design of a horse, seen from the rear, tethered to a spreading pine tree, in gold takamakie with kirikane highlights, the interior of nashiji, unsigned, 7cm (2¾in); the second of gold-sprinkled red lacquer, each side with an irregular sunken panel of roiro lacquered with a Chinese old man fishing and a boy in a boat, in gold takamakie, the interior of nashiji; unsigned. 6.4cm (2½in).
