A large Apulian red-figure hydria
Attributed to the Patera Painter, circa 320 B.C.
Showing an Ionic naiskos scene with a draped female figure seated on a stool, her himation with dark borders swathed about her lower body, holding an open casket with sash hanging below in her right hand, a ball in her left, four draped female figures positioned outside of the naiskos, one holding a casket and an oinochoe, another a fan and a patera, one with a mirror and a handled patera, another a mirror, palmettes on the reverse, the neck with sprigs of berried laurel and a central rosette, with ovolo around the exterior rim, strokes around the handles, a band of meander and saltire squares along the baseline, 20½in (52cm) high
