A Byzantine marble pilaster capital
Circa 5th-6th Century A.D.
The front section trapezoid in shape, with a rectangular back, carved in relief with a band of laurel with a scallop shell at the top, a central circular sunken panel with a cross in relief, the 'Alpha' and 'Omega' symbols hanging from the arms, four laurel leaves at the corners, 22½in x 20in x 13in (57cm x 51cm x 33cm)
