Footnotes

  • This panel is remarkable for its very rich use of vivid colour, heightened by the gold and silver thread used in a dense design. It is equally rare to find a panel in a state of almost perfect condition. Other textiles of this type are held in the Sadberk Hanim Museum, Istanbul see Reunited after centuries, Vahbi Koc Vakfi, Istanbul 2005, cat nos. 80 and 81, and in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London see P. Johnstone Turkish Embroidery, London, 1985, nos. 28,30.
