France or Algeria, 20th Century
Arabic manuscript and watercolour with gold on paper, a central roundel containing an invocation in stylised thuluth script radiating from the centre, above and below this a cartouche containing proverbial sayings in thuluth script in black ink, outside these a profusely illuminated wide border with intertwining floral and vegetal motifs in colours and gold, signed lower left and right in European script and Arabic respectively, framed
434 x 324 mm.

    Muhammad Racim was responsible for the decoration of Dinet and Piazza's Vie de Mahomet, and shortly afterwards that of the twelve volumes of the Thousand and One Nights illustrated by Léon Carré.
