Elahi Bukhsh Mutea was taught by the calligrapher Syed Anwer Husain Nafees Raqam, and is himself now visiting teacher of calligraphy to Islamabad and Rawalpindi Art Council. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the first prize in the All-Pakistan Exhibition of Calligraphy, held by the National Council of Arts, Islamabad, 1998, the second prize for calligraphy in the International Competition for Painting and Calligraphy, Iran 1989, and the Special Prize for Khat-e-Naskh, awarded by the Punjab Arts Council, Lahore 1999. His work is in several public collections, including the British Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art, Dubai, and the National Art Gallery, Islamabad.
