of octagonal form with hinged lid and two faceted suspension elements, the lid with central inscribed spinel surrounded by triangular diamonds in the kundun technique on a green enamel ground, the sides with diamond-set elements on a red ground with green and white chequered border, the base with gold inscription on a cobalt enamel ground with border of gold flower heads on a green ground

  • The inscriptions comprise: on the diamonds: 'Allah'; the spinel inscribed with invocations to 'Allah Mohammad 'Ali Fatima Hassan Hussain'; the reverse with the basmalah and the nada 'ali quatrain:"Call upon 'Ali who causes wonder/ You will find him helpful in misfortune/ All anguish, all sorrow will disappear/ Through your Prophethood, through your trusteeship, O 'Ali, O 'Ali, O 'Ali!"
