Arabic manuscript on paper, 300 leaves, 15 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink, gold roundels decorated with alternating blue and red dots between verses, inner margins ruled in red and gold, catchwords, occasional illuminated devices in wide outer borders, sura headings written in thuluth script in white on gold ground, illuminated frontispiece in colours and gold, creased, some tears, some crude repairs, contemporary brown morocco gilt, faded, worn, with flap

Footnotes

  • The extensive colophon of this manuscript is written within a stylised illuminated dervish's cap. The scribe was connected with the Mevlevi order and was a student of al-Sayyid Husayn al-Hamdi of Çorum, in Baykoz, a suburb of Istanbul. Vidin is a city in modern-day Bulgaria. The manuscript has also been signed by the gilder, Mehmed 'Ali Baykozi, in AH [1]273/AD 1856-57.
