An illuminated Qur'an in scroll form written in ghubari script, with an Ottoman 16th Century cylindrical silver-gilt case
Probably Ottoman Turkey, 18th Century
Arabic manuscript on smooth cream-coloured lightly burnished paper, text written horizontally and diagonally in ghubari script in red and black ink within panels outlined in gold and often incorporated into larger decorative and stylised verses surrounded with gilt floral and vegetal motifs, no verse markers, one illuminated headpiece in colours and gold at beginning incorporating sura al-Fatihah, written within a square panel, creased, short tears mostly restricted to outer borders, some retouching, upper part relined with thick paper, with silver-gilt cylindrical case, Ottoman Turkey, 16th Century, the body and domed finials decorated in repoussé with scrolling foliate vines, flanked by two bands encrusted with turquoises, a few now missing, with a barley-twist pin serving as a lock securing hinged domed finial
