Two Qajar lacquered papier mache Mirror Cases
Persia, 1830-50
rectangular, decorated in polychrome and gilt, the first with front and back covers depicting a mother and child with an elderly man and female attendants, the interior of the hinged front cover depicting young men visiting a holy man in a landscape, borders with stylised floral motifs in gold on a black ground; the second with a drop-out front cover depicting young men visiting a holy man, the inside cover and back cover depicting mullahs or sages with their pupils, borders as before, both with mirrors within
