Giovanni Grancino in Contrada, largha di Milano al segno della Corona 1693 Length of back 350mm (13 3/4in) of a red golden brown colour, use and wear, with original finger board numbered W.900, in case. (2)

  • Offered with a certificate by L.P. Balmforth & Son, Merrion Street, Leeds, 2, dated 7th September 1968, stating 'We certify that the Violin ... was made in our opinion, Giovanni Grancino of Milan, dated 1693', and signed L.P. Balmforth & Son.

    Also with a receipt by the above dated 23rd September 1968 and a letter from W.E. Hill & Sons, dated 30th April 1968, stating '... the violin bearing our number W.900, this is recorded on our books as being the work of Giovanni Grancino of Milan bearing a label dated 1693. The back is in one piece of wood cut on the slab, marked by a faint medium curl. A well preserved example with reddish brown varnish'.
