A Portuguese 18th century brass-mounted carved rosewood and ebonised single tester bed and canopy
the spreading canopy with white silk cover and under-hanging lambrequins, each angle with a scrolling acanthus carving, on turned bulbous supports with brass rings, the headboard surmounted by a carved palmette flanked by scrolling floral branches and foliage, on cabriole legs joined by rectangular stretchers, 120cm wide, 208cm long, 244cm high (47" wide, 81.5" long, 96" high).

    Purchased by David Bruce from the prominent anti-prohibtion campaigner Pauline Sabin (1887-1955) who later married the American tennis player and politician Dwight F. Davis (1879-1945) who is best known as the founder of the Davis Cup.
