Augsburg Cabinet on later carved stand
An Augsburg late 16th/ early 17th century brass-mounted walnut, ash, yew, fruitwood and marquetry cabinet
originally as a fall-front adapted as two doors and brass-mounted in England in the late 17th/ early 18th century
the rectangular top inlaid with scrolling foliage and arabesques, above a pair of cupboard doors inlaid with ruins and columns in an architectural landscaped, the reverse inlaid with musical instruments and flowers, the interior fitted with twelve drawers and further cuboard doors, decorated overall with capriccios of houses and ruins, the sides inlaid with further ruins in an architectural background, on a later base carved with foliage and scrolling legs joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher, 105cm wide, 46cm deep, 140cm high (41" wide, 18" deep, 55" high).
