by Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand, Paris
the shaped top centred by a foliate strapwork cartouche, above four shelves, with open curved sides, on cabriole legs and acanthus cast sabots, the reverse stamped four times G. Durand/ Paris, 79cm wide, 32cm deep, 162cm high (31" wide, 12.5" deep, 63.5" high).

Footnotes

  • Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand was born in Paris in 1839 and established the Maison Durand firm in 1870. His work shop was located at 12, rue de la Crisaie and later at 23, rue Beautreillis. Durand specialised in making 18th century style furniture of the highest quality and received a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889. In 1890 Durand's son Frédéric-Louis joined the firm, which changed its name to Durand et Fils and later changed location to rue Saint-Antoine at the old Hôtel de Sully.
