A George IV silver swing-handled basket
By Robert Gainsford, Sheffield 1824
Shaped oval form, the sides die-stamped with highly elaborate floral swags and acanthus leaves above a pierced band of lozenge motifs, raised on four paw and scroll-edged bracket feet, centre engraved with coat of arms and the underside with French presentation inscription: "Don de Dame Cathe Marchant Vve de Beauvior à Mademoiselle Matilde Priaulx," height 10.3cm, length 34.8cm, weight 42.33oz.

    Sold with a newspaper cutting, dated 1972, noting an interesting coincidence: Her Majesty the Queen was given an identical basket as a present on the occasion of her Silver Wedding Anniversary by the Admiralty Board for use on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
