A pair of Victorian entrée dishes and covers with Old Sheffield Plate warmers
By William Kerr Reid, London 1842
Of square lobed form, the covers with detachable armorial insignia handles formed as swans wearing crown collars, with an applied band of C-scrolls and shells, engraved with a crest to one side and a coat of arms to the other, the dishes with elaborate shell handles and relief foliate scroll rim, the Old Sheffield Plate warming stands with conforming dished tops with reeded rim and foliate scroll handles and feet, height on stands 21cm, length 33.5cm, weight of silver 115oz.   • The arms are of General Sir John WRIGHT GUISE, 3rd Bt., G.C.B. (born 1778, succ. 1834, died 1865). He was a Colonel of the 85th Regiment and distinguished himself during the French war in Egypt, Hanover and the Peninsula. Awarded a cross for his gallant conduct at Salamanca, Vittoria and Nive.
