Four late 19th/early 19th century tortoiseshell and gold plaques
Each with a different scene; an elaborate architectural capriccio, a harbour scene of a ship approaching a fortifide harbour, a farm house by a stream and harbour scene of long boats being unloaded (the latter with chips), contained in brown painted composite frames, diameter 7cm. (4)
Estimate:
£5,000 - 7,000
€5,900 - 8,200
US$ 7,600 - 11,000

Footnotes

  • These appear to have been executed by the application of a thin layer of gold leaf over a die and then a layer of tortoiseshell which was then compressed, possibly under some heat as well to 'melt' the shell.
