The overscrolled ends and squab cushion seat above a seat rail decorated with Egyptian style hieroglyphics and terminating to either end in spiralling concentric circles, the opposing side similarly decorated, on ring turned tapering baluster legs with brass cappings and castors, 146cm wide, 51cm deep, 51cm high (57" wide, 20" deep, 20" high).

Footnotes

  • The stylised large overscrolled roundel ends are a feature seen in Thomas Sheraton's unfinished work, The Cabinet-Maker, Upholsterer and General Artist's Encyclopaedia (1804-1806) which notably contains the earliest recorded Regency interpretations of Egyptian taste applied to furniture. The large overscrolled roundel ends were also used by the firm of Gillows who supplied Colonel Hughes of Kinmel Park, Denbighshire with a suite of seat furniture in 1805 where the settees feature this device, see F.Collard, Regency Furniture, London 1985, p.102, pl. 11.
