SHULMAN, JULIUS. 1910-2009.
Group of 42 silver gelatin print architectural photographs, half of them 8 x 10 inches and half approximately 15 x 19 inches, 1949-1954, of three Blaine Drake-designed Phoenix, Arizona homes, many with Shulman's copyright stamp to verso, pencil captions to verso of several small prints, large prints mounted to board, some bumping or creasing to corners and some minor wear along edges of large prints, small prints with some light creasing, mounting marks to verso of several, water damage to one small print.
Provenance: Property from the Estate of Blaine and Hulda Drake.

Shulman's architectural studies of three homes designed by former Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice and influential Phoenix architect Blaine Drake: the Chase-Alden house at 5348 North 24th Street; the Drakes' own home at 5210 North 22nd Street; and the Owen Residence at 5326 North 24th Street. Blaine and Hulda Drake and their children also appear in several of the photographs. It was during one of his trips to Phoenix to photograph Drake's houses that Shulman was first introduced by Drake to Wright, which lead to Shulman's photographing several of latter's projects, as well.
