Extremely rare poetical pamphlet (WorldCat locating a sole copy, in NYPL) on the Battle of Cape Passaro. In 1718 Admiral George Byng was sent to the Mediterranean in command of a fleet to prevent a Spanish invasion of Italy or Sicily; when he arrived, the Spaniards had just begun to besiege Messina. Byng offered a short postponement of combat pending diplomatic negotiations. The refusal of the offer led Byng to engage the Spanish, even though war had not been declaredhence the "friendship injured" of the title (ODNB).
