Hand-colored engraved celestial map, 580 x 478 mm (plate size), being a Mercator style projection of the Zodiacal figures, chart of astrological measurements below, cartouche elevated by putti, slightly toned, faint center crease, expert repair and reinforcement to verso, toning from earlier mounting to outer margins of verso.
Originally published around 1684, this celestial map is unusual for its "beyond the stars" perspective looking towards Earth, with many Zodiacal figures drawn showing their backs. The imprint from an earlier publisher is imperfectly erased from the lower margin.
