Exceedingly rare visitor's map of New York, not located by us in any sale records or institutional holdings. The publishers, Berford & Co, were located at 2 Astor House and active in the 1840s. Their most significant publication is Jefferson's very rare Map of the Emigrant Road from Independence, Mo., to San Francisco (also in 1849). This map may well have been sold to the 49'ers who chose the sea route to California.
