8vo (205 x 125 mm). [iv], 540 pp. Period calf. Title with short tear at fore-edge, title and foot of final leaf patchily browned, bookplate removed from rear pastedown, upper joint cracked, rubbed.
Provenance: a Russian library (faint inkstamp to binder's blank and trace of shelfmark to title); Baron de Bode Kolytcheff (bookplate).
One of five hundred copies in octavo format; one hundred further copies were printed on large, quarto-size, paper. The title page has a woodcut of the Great Seal of the United States—its first appearance in a printed book. Includes the Declaration of Independence. Howes C716; Sabin 16118.
