FIRST EDITION. Reprint of articles from Pravda of June 25, 1933 to July 8, 1934, describing the Cheliuskin rescue in the Arctic Region. In 1934 when 104 people were stranded on the ice after the sinking of the Cheliuskin in an ill-fated Polar expedition, seven pilots miraculously saved everyone. The rescuers were the first Russians to be made Heroes of the Soviet Union. Senkin signed one of the photocollages that illustrate the reports and likely did the remaining ones as well as the covers of this special commemorative edition. After studying with Malevich, Senkin took classes at VKhUTEMAS where he met Gustav Kliutsis and took up photocollage. He became an important Agitprop poster artist and also worked with El Lissitzky in Germany.
