DENI, VIKTOR, AND NIKOLAI DOLGORKOV. "Liniya mannergeima." [The Mannerheim Line.]
Original gouache maquette for an anti-Finnish Winter War propaganda poster, 590 x 410 mm. Signed and dated 1940 lower right. Framed.
Born Viktor Denisov, Deni was one of the most important agit-prop poster artists of the early Soviet Union. Dolgorkov was also famous for his propaganda work. These two artists often collaborated on posters extolling the virtues of Stalin and the Soviet military. During the Winter War between Russia and Finland in 1939-1940, the Red Army took heavy losses at the hands of the Finns until they finally broke through the Mannerheim Line as shown here.
