Lot Details
PAVLOVA, ANNA. 1881-1931.
Photograph Signed ("A. Pavlova") in Cyrillic and dated 1926, platinum print, 8½ x 6½ inches, portrait of the ballerina with her Boston Terrier, Poppy, photographer's credit in image ("d'Ora / Paris"), framed. Together with a copy of Dandre's biography of Pavlova (London: 1932), reproducing d'Ora's portrait of the ballerina.

Pavlova was best known for her "Dying Swan" danced to Saint-Saëns' music as choreographed by Michel Fokine in 1905. Victor d'André, the author of the posthumous biography, was Pavlova's manager and reportedly her husband although no official record of their 1911 marriage has come to light. Under his control, she became the wealthiest and most famous dancer in the world.
